Bulletproof coffee is huge in the Keto Diet community, but it actually has benefits for everyone regardless of whether you’re on a low-carb diet. We all love coffee for the taste and ritual, but most of all for the caffeine. While that extra jolt is totally necessary for most of us, it can also have some negative side effects including shakiness, digestive issues, and mood swings. This is even more true for people who may have anxiety and are therefore more sensitive to the spikes and dips that coffee creates.

Adding healthy fats (like grass-fed butter, coconut oil, MCT oil, and cocoa butter to name a few) balances the caffeine in the coffee and gives you a combined boost of energy, improves weight loss efforts and digestive health, and may help you feel more alert and mentally sharp. Essentially, it deals with the negative side effects while leaving the benefits of coffee untouched. Bulletproof Coffee is the answer! Plus, it’s oh so delicious! We’ve got three different versions for you today, so grab a cup of java and get reading!

1. Bulletproof Coffee

This is the OG of bulletproof coffees, a simple recipe for those of us who traditionally like our coffee black or with a bit of milk or cream, but no sugar or sweetener. All you need is three ingredients to get all the health benefits listed above! Brew the coffee using whatever method you like. Transfer the coffee to an immersion or smoothie blender cup, then add both the coconut oil and grass-fed butter.

You can use either an immersion blender or a blender with a smoothie cup, but regardless of what you’ve got at home, blend up the mixture! If it’s not quite creamy enough for you, you can add 1-2 tablespoons of cream or non-dairy milk and blend again.

When it’s all done, there should be a nice light-colored froth on the top of the coffee. Transfer to a mug of your choice and drink up!

Servings: 1

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ - 2 cups hot, freshly brewed coffee
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 tbsp cocoa butter or grass-fed butter

Equipment

  • Blender

Method

  • Add coffee, coconut oil, and cocoa or grass-fed butter to a blender, smoothie cup, or immersion blender cup. Blend until smooth and frothy. Serve hot!

2. Salted Caramel Creamy Bulletproof Coffee

This bulletproof coffee is perfect for you if you like a sweeter, creamier coffee in the morning. It’s a bit of a pseudo caramel latte! Start by brewing your coffee however you like then transfer to a smoothie cup attachment (for your regular blender) or immersion blender cup. Next, add the buter and coconut oil to the coffee.

Next up, add the heavy cream and sugar-free salted caramel coffee syrup. You can really use any sugar-free syrup that you want, changing up the flavor as much as you want! We used Torani Sugar Free Salted Caramel Syrup, which you can grab on Amazon or find at your local kitchen store.

Time to blend! Blend the mixture for about 30 seconds until it’s all combined and you get that beautiful froth on the top of the coffee. Transfer to a mug and take a sip! Enjoy!

Servings: 1

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ - 2 cups hot, freshly brewed coffee
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 2 tbsp cocoa butter or grass-fed butter
  • 1 tbsp cream
  • 1-2 pumps Sugar-Free Salted Caramel

Equipment

  • Blender

Method

  • Add coffee, coconut oil, cocoa or grass-fed butter, sugar-free salted caramel, and cream to a blender, smoothie cup, or immersion blender cup. Blend until smooth and frothy. Serve hot!

3. Irish Cream Boozy Bulletproof Coffee

This recipe is perfect for a morning at the cottage or an evening nightcap because it has a secret ingredient: our Creamy Keto Irish Cream Liqueur! Make a batch of our low-carb liqueur ahead of time and store it in the fridge for up to a couple months so you’ve got it on hand. It’s perfect for a winter warm-up or a summer sipper and you don’t have to worry about those carbs! Transfer your black coffee to a smoothie attachment or immersion blender cup and add the coconut oil, grass-fed butter, and Keto Irish Cream.

Blend baby blend! Give the mixture a thorough blending until it’s all incorporated, about 30 seconds or so.

It’s time to enjoy! Transfer the Bulletproof Coffee to a mug and take a little walk to your front porch or dock before sitting down to sip. Enjoy!

Rhiannon Ball

Rhiannon loves to cook and bake but has also never said "no" to a takeout burrito (see, she's just like you!). Despite slowly running out of room in her cabinets, she continues to expand her collections of cookbooks and kitchen gadgets and is deeply jealous of people who can just "whip something up" without a recipe. When she's not in the kitchen, you can find her camping and hiking with her husband and rescue dog, Waffles.

Bailey's Irish Cream anyone? So delicious. But also packed with sugar, which is a definite no-no when you're on the Keto diet.
