The Super Bowl 50 countdown is on! The game is set for February 7, 2016, at Levi’s Stadium, in Santa Clara, California.  This Super Bowl has been dubbed dubbed the “Golden Super Bowl”, in honor of the 50th (or golden) anniversary of the games, as well as to commemorate the location in the Golden State (aka: California) and the stadium itself, which is home to the San Francisco 49ers, a team moniker that commemorates the hardworking minors of California’s Gold Rush.

A Golden Super Bowl is something very special indeed. So let’s kick off 50 years of football with seven truly winning recipes…

1. Colby-Pepper Jack Cheese Dip

This golden yellow dip is filled to the brim with melted colby-pepper jack cheese, chopped chicken, chipotle peppers, chili powder, and jalapeños. Prepare and load the goods into a warm fondue pot for the party. Serve with a scrumptious selection of veggie sticks, toasted pita triangles, and nacho chips for dipping.

2. Fried Macaroni and Cheese Bites

You know that unique dance each player does when he scores a touchdown? You’ll be inspired to come up with your own dance of pure joy when you pop one of these heavenly little golden squares into your mouth. Believe me when I say you won’t be able to resist leaping to your feet at the taste of these panko fried morsels of elbow macaroni, butter, mustard powder, egg, and gooey white cheddar cheese.

3. Bratwurst Sliders

Bratwurst gets the golden treatment when it’s sliced thick and fried crispy in an oiled skillet. Fix mini onion or cheese rolls with equal smears of mustard and mayonnaise then top with the spicy fried sausage and a tangy helping of sauerkraut.

4. Chili Pie

A Super Bowl smorgasbord of serve-youself pies is a great idea! Kick off the line up with a half dozen hearty chili pies. Each cornbread crust is jam-packed with hot (or sweet, if you prefer) Italian sausage, kidney beans, chili powder, diced tomatoes, egg, salsa, and topped with a golden crust of more cornbread and melted, shredded cheddar cheese. Your guests will be attempting all sorts of sweeps, slants, and veers to get a second slice.

5. Cheesy Beer Quick Bread

You know what goes great with beer? Bread made with more beer! Make up a loaf by mixing shredded cheddar, mozzarella, and Monterey Jack cheeses, with chopped green onion, baking powder, honey, all-purpose flour, and 2 bottles of your favorite light and medium bodied brews (the recipe recommends one of each). Sip a pint while you pop it in the oven and let your guests inhale the wining combination of beer-baked bread goodness.

6. Spicy Southern Fried Chicken

Forget the quarterback! Never mind the running back either! The MVP of your Super Bowl 50 party is bound to be this basket of golden fried, Souther-style chicken. Each wing, leg, thigh, and breast is slow-cooked a delectable buttermilk marinade fused with mustard, salt, dry mustard, cayenne, and black pepper. Then the chicken is coated with a spicy flour and deep fried until it achieves that successful golden brown color.

7. Bacon and Pepper Jack Hushpuppies

If the mouth-watering combination of bacon, pepper jack cheese, and cornbread doesn’t have you cheering, I don’t really know what will move you at this year’s Super Bowl 50. However, these little bites of spirit are crispy and golden on the outside and soft and fluffy in the center. Serve them with a tantalizing array of sauces such as mustard, cheese, and a sweet and tangy chili dijon sauce (that’s included with this recipe.

Anna adores cooking, drinking wine, and listening to records, but she does a lot of yoga to balance things out ;) This explains the black bean brownie disaster of 2007 (don't bring that up). She's noshed in countries like Greece, Turkey, France, Ireland, Costa Rica, and numerous other weird, yummy places that will get her waxing all poetic about her favorite recipes.
